Phantoms romp over Buccaneers

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Phantoms scored four unanswered goals in the second period Friday night en route to a 5-1 victory over the Des Moines Buccaneers at the Covelli Centre.

It was the second straight game that Youngstown has scored five-or-more goals.

The Phantoms struck first when Yushiro Hirano put home a rebound for his 11th tally of the season. About two minutes later, Phantoms captain Matt Alvaro scored his first goal of the year.

“I’m happier with the win and the way we played, but obviously it’s nice to finally get one,” Alvaro said. I got a great pass from Alex Esposito, and it feels good to have that weight off my back.”

On the third goal, Luke McInnis made a strong play behind the net and found Chase Pearson open in the slot. Pearson scored his second goal in as many games, his third of the season.

Kris Myllari scored a power play goal with a wrist shot from just inside the blue line. Cam Morrison scored on a breakaway in the third period after Patrick Kramer sprung Morrison free with a long stretch pass.

Colin DeAugustine turned away 22 of 23 Buccaneers’ shot attempts.
