Submit details on Christmas services

The Vindicator will publish a listing of area services that are open to the public in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. The list will run on the Religion page Dec. 19.

The deadline to submit information is 5 p.m. Dec. 16.

Information should include the denomination and complete name of the church, address, city or suburb and time of Christmas Eve and/or Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day services. The information should be accompanied by a name and a phone number for verification or any questions.

Celebration set

A two-day Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration is scheduled.

A Mass is planned at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Lucy/ St. Rosa de Lima Church of Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, 393 Tenney Ave., Campbell.

A prayer service with a mariachi-led serenade, Las Mananitas, will be at 8 a.m. next Saturday at St. Brendan Church, 2800 Oakwood Ave., Youngstown. Also that day, a Mass and celebration is planned at 11 a.m. with Bishop George V. Murry of the Diocese of Youngstown and the Revs. Bill Loveless and Shawn Conoboy.

A social will follow in Maxwell Hall.

Celebrating lives

YOUNGSTOWN

Zion Lutheran Church, 3300 Canfield Road, will present a “Break Through the Darkness” service at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 13.

The nondenominational service is especially for families and friends of loved ones who have died. This service of light, Scripture, music and anointing will celebrate the lives of loved ones and address what the holidays will mean without that special person. The goal of the service is to provide comfort, peace and healing.

‘Messiah’ planned

WARREN

Handel’s “The Messiah” will be presented at 4 and 7 p.m. Sunday at Blessed Sacrament Church, 3020 Reeves Road NE, by Warren Civic Chorus and Warren Philharmonic Orchestra.

Candlelight service

GROVE CITY, PA.

Grove City College invites students, family, friends, alumni and the local community to the annual Christmas candlelight services at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Sunday in Harbison Chapel.

Dr. F. Stanley Keehlwetter, dean of the chapel, will deliver a Christmas meditation, “Do Not Be Afraid.

The college’s Touring Choir and Brass Quintet will provide special music. The service also features the recitation of “Thou Wilt Light My Candle,” a GCC tradition during the Advent season.

Christmas program

WAYNE

A “Christmas Praise” program and candlelight service will be presented at 6:30 p.m. next Saturday at First Congregational Church of Wayne, corner of Routes 193 and 322.

There will be special performances by Christmas Praise Choir and youth group with guitar music and hymn singing. There will be a hat and glove distribution for 2- to 14-year-olds. Refreshments will follow the program.

Film to be shown

CANFIELD

Men and Women United for Life and the Diocesan Office of Pro-life, Marriage and Family will sponsor a showing of the movie “Mary of Nazareth” at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 in the parish center at St. Michael Church, 300 N. Broad St.

The film was produced by Ignatius Press and depicts the life of Christ through the eyes of his mother.

The film is appropriate for children age 11 and older. The showing is free, and refreshments will be served.

Gospel artist

2Deep Entertainment will present Deitrick Haddon, gospel artist, in concert at 7:30 tonight at Second Baptist Church, 1510 Main Ave. SW. The event is sponsored by Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home. Doors will open at 6:30.

Haddon is internationally known and has five chart-topping gospel albums in the past 10 years. He also appears on Oxygen Channel’s “Preachers of L.A.” reality-TV show, which chronicles the lives of six pastors.

Also performing will be the Kingdom Dancers of Youngstown and Warren City Wide Youth Choir, directed by the Rev. Todd Johnson.

Musical program

A “Musical Holiday Journey” will be presented at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive.

This is a retelling of the Christmas story through the eyes of a junior choir and its director with the pageantry of angels, Mary and Joseph, shepherds and Wise Men. “The Many Moods of Christmas, Suite One” by Robert Shaw will be sung by the chancel choir and will be accompanied by an instrumental ensemble, organ and piano.

The play is written and directed by Debbie Kempers and is assisted by Peggy Yuhas with musical direction by Kathryn Miller.

Nativity Night

HOWLAND

Howland Community Church, 198 Niles-Cortland Road, will host a Nativity Night from 5 to 7 p.m. today with a traditional nativity and live nativity. There will be jazz Christmas music, crafts for children and refreshments.

Guest speaker

YOUNGSTOWN

The Rev. Jeffery Stanford, pastor of Beulah Baptist Church, will be guest speaker at 4 p.m. Dec. 13 at World Fellowship Interdenominational Church, 494 W. Dewey Ave.

The program is free and open to all.
