The Austintown library hosted its Gotta Move Storytime event on Nov. 12. Librarian, Kathe Orr, led the storytime with several songs, stories and a few books.

The children who attended the event ranged from the ages of 2 to 5. They enjoyed being able to meet other children their age and engage in different types of activities each storytime they attend.

After a couple books were read, scarves were passed around, and the children were able to move and dance along to a song with their different colored scarves. After playing with scarves, the children counted leaves and then acted like leaves falling from the trees as they sang a song.

The last activity Orr had for the children even got some of the adults involved. To cool down and relax, the children did the parachute activity where the adults would move the giant, rainbow parachute up and down in the air.

The children loved this activity and laughed every time the parachute would come down to them while they sat on the floor.

“We got a new robot book to read at the end and change things up, but the kids didn’t want to switch over from their usual ending story, ‘If You’re Happy and You Know It.’ They like to keep some things the same,” said Orr.

As the children left storytime, they crawled through a tunnel while Orr blew bubbles at the end of the tunnel for the children to pop on their way out. The tunnel is a newer object that the Austintown library has introduced to their storytimes and the librarians have found it to be one of the children’s favorite things.
