Probation violations

Probation violations

WARREN

Paul Pollis, 48, of Oak Knoll Avenue Southeast and Trentwood Drive Southeast, has been sentenced to several sanctions as a result of numerous probation violations related to drug use.

Pollis failed three drug screens – in July, August and November – while on probation stemming from a cocaine-possession conviction earlier this year.

Judge Andrew Logan of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court sentenced Pollis on Tuesday to 36 days in the county jail with credit for 26 days already served. He also will serve at least 30 days of house arrest and will be required to undergo a mental-health evaluation.

Pollis was sentenced to prison in 2007 and 2009 for violating his probation stemming from a conviction for showing up at the Howland police chief’s home in 2005, asking the chief a question and then being found in possession of a firearm in the car.

Result of recount

WARREN

Tuesday’s recount of the voting in the Mecca Township trustee race did not change the vote totals, leaving Fritz Birkhimer the winner over Tim Francis.

A coin toss at the last Trumbull County Board of Elections meeting broke a 285 tie in favor of Birkhimer.

The elections board was required to recount at least 5 percent of the vote, but because Mecca Township has only two precincts, the elections board recounted one of the two precincts.

Assault on toddler

WARREN

Police are investigating a felonious assault involving a boy, 3, who was unresponsive and possibly not breathing at 6:38 p.m. Saturday at a High Street Northeast home.

An ambulance took the boy to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital, and he is believed to be still alive. But police declined to provide any other information Tuesday. The boy’s mother, 43, lives at the High Street address, according to a police report. The boy’s father, 43, has a Mansfield address.

Caught after chase

BOARDMAN

Police nabbed a suspect after he led officers from multiple law-enforcement agencies on a chase.

Matthew Burns, 43, of Austintown, is charged by Boardman police with aggravated burglary, obstructing official business and resisting arrest after he reportedly burglarized a Windel Way home Monday and then fled from police, first in a vehicle and then on foot.

Boardman, Austintown and Youngstown police participated in the search, according to a report. An Austintown police officer found Burns hiding behind a South Meridian Road residence.
