Judge holds up school board president's appointment to commission
YOUNGSTOWN
Judge Lou A. D’Apolito of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court granted a temporary restraining order today preventing Carol Staten from serving on the city schools academic distress commission.
The Youngstown Education Association, the union representing school district teachers, sought the order. Judge D’Apolito’s order also prohibits Brenda Kimble, school board president, from appointing anyone to the commission who isn’t a city schools classroom teacher. Kimble appointed Staten, who works in the district as a subsitute principal.
A hearing on a preliminary injunction request by the union is set for 9:30 a.m. Dec. 14.
