Holiday musical coming to Stambaugh
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN
“The Toy Shoppe,” an original musical written by country icon Kenny Rogers, has kicked off another national tour this Christmas season that will bring it to Stambaugh Auditorium on Dec. 20 at 3 p.m.
The inspirational play has been touring for seven years. It stars Alan Thicke in the role of toy shop owner Hank Longley. “My friend Alan is going to be great in the role,” said Rogers in a press release. “He’s starred as one of America’s all-time fathers in the hit series ‘Growing Pains,’ but what people don’t know about him is that he’s an excellent singer as well.”
The story follows Longley as he’s losing his toy shop to big business, progress and a fast-paced changing world. But he’s hanging on with his group of kids and a bit of magic in a place that values little things. It’s a place where it’s OK to slow down and appreciate the values handed down from generation to generation.
Tickets are $24.50, $29.50 and $34.50 and are available now through the Stambaugh box office, 1000 Fifth Ave.; online at stambaughauditorium.com, and by phone at 330-259-0555.
