Dancing Mindfulness founder Dr. Jamie Marich has combined efforts with Jennifer Neal Eos, Whole Fitness founder and yogini, to create an event both healing and supportive of the greater community.

On Dec. 13, from 2 until 3:30 p.m., a free Dancing Mindfulness class is offered by Eos Whole Fitness at Calvin Center for the Arts, 755 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown. To benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, participants are asked to bring one bag of nonperishable food. The class will be co-facilitated by Marich and affiliate trainer Ramona Skriiko.

Eos Whole Fitness is located in the Calvin Center for the Arts in Youngstown, where it is a part of a collective group of businesses and organizations that promote the arts locally. Mercy Health Youngstown, formerly Humility of Mary Health Partners, will provide free healthy eating/cooking classes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today and Dec. 8 at McGuffey Centre, 1649 Jacobs Road.

Healthy eating/cooking classes and demonstrations are provided through a grant from the Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley as a regular part of Stepping Out programming.

Stepping Out provides free fitness classes, health screenings, healthy eating and cooking classes year-round at neighborhood centers in Youngstown and Warren.

Diabetes education

YOUNGSTOWN

Mercy Health Youngstown, formerly Humility of Mary Health Partners, will offer a three-day diabetes education class from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 8, 9 and 10 at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, 1044 Belmont Ave.

Health-care professionals who teach the course, which is certified by the American Diabetes Association, focus on the medical aspects of the disease such as medications, glucose monitoring, exercise and complications during the first session. The second and third sessions focus on learning to plan meals, count carbohydrates, interpret food labels and make positive food choices.

“These classes provide participants with the knowledge they need to manage their diabetes and avoid the long-term complications the disease can cause,” says Kay Leonhart, manager, diabetes education, Mercy Health Youngstown. They are offered throughout the year at three Mercy Health Youngstown locations: St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, St. Joseph Warren Hospital and Hospice House.
