Western Reserve Road bridge over I-680 to reopen Monday night, weather permitting

YOUNGSTOWN

The Western Reserve Road bridge over Interstate 680 will reopen late Monday, weather permitting.

Ohio Department of Transportation spokesman Justin Chesnic said the road is closed through Monday evening but then will be reopened.

“There’s quite a few things they’ve got to do, they’re going to work [today]” on things such as striping the bridge, he said. “The plan is [that work] should take about two days to get that done.”

Chesnic continued, “If we open Monday, we’re opening a couple days early. It was a big bridge, and we demolished it and rebuilt it in 75 days, which is pretty impressive.”

The bridge was closed in June, and it was an $8.9 million project to replace the bridge over I-680 and resurface the highway from U.S. Route 224 to the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in October.

In Boardman, McClurg Road at Market Street will have various lane restrictions for roadway widening starting Monday. That is a $700,000 project to widen McClurg at Market, and the project is scheduled to be completed by late October.

Also starting Monday is more work on Interstate 80 in Austintown. The highway will have various night lane restrictions from state Route 11 to the Trumbull County line for roadway widening from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily Monday to Wednesday. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained on I-80 eastbound between state Route 46 and the Trumbull County line.

That is part of the $108.4 million project to widen and repave I-80 from state Route 46 to state Route 193/Belmont Avenue.
