Girard firefighters find marijuana plants at blaze site
GIRARD — Firefighters discovered two marijuana plants while putting out a fire Thursday evening at a home on 40 E. Howard Ave.
A police report says firefighters found two suspected marijuana plants in the home's basement while checking walls for hot spots. Police have identified the home's tenant as a suspect for drug abuse, but have not yet filed charges.
Firefighters arrived on the scene about 4:30 p.m. and contained the fire by 5:15 p.m. There no injuries, but the fire caused approximately $1,000 damage. Fire officials suspect a discarded cigar caused the blaze.
