Weekly tests results from Lake Newport expected today

YOUNGSTOWN — This week’s results water-test results from Lake Newport are expected from the Mahoning County District Board of Health later today.

The county health board initiated a 12-week testing program, now in its fifth week, in response to earlier testing that found elevated E. coli levels in Lake Newport. That testing was done in response to a massive fish kill in the lake at the end of June.

Lake Newport, and all other Mill Creek MetroParks waterways, have been closed since July 10.
