Record sales at theater after Bacon announcement

HARTFORD, Conn.

A Connecticut theater in Hartford says it had its highest sales day in its 52-year history after announcing Kevin Bacon will star in a stage adaptation of the story that inspired Alfred Hitchcock’s 1954 classic film “Rear Window.”

Bacon made the announcement Tuesday. Hartford Stage officials tell the Hartford Courant they expect tickets to completely sell out in just a few days.

The movie star will headline the haunting tale of a man in a wheelchair who witnesses a possible murder. It’s been adapted for the stage by Keith Reddin and will run from Oct. 22 to Nov. 15.

Bacon is a Golden Globe Award winner whose films include “A Few Good Men,” “Apollo 13” and “Footloose.” He’s been on Broadway in “Slab Boys” and “An Almost Holy Picture.”

New pals Lawrence and Schumer writing a comedy together

NEW YORK

Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer aren’t just riding jet skis together. They’re making a movie.

A representative for Lawrence confirms Wednesday that Lawrence and Schumer are writing a screenplay.

In an interview with The New York Times, Lawrence says the two are planning to star in the comedy as sisters.

Lawrence seems thrilled by their newfound friendship and says she and Schumer are “creatively made for each other.”

The two became friends after the “Hunger Games” star reached out to the comedian to praise her recent film “Trainwreck.”

Photos of the two jet skiing went viral online earlier this summer.

Broadway’s leading ladies strike online pose for equality

NEW YORK

Some Broadway heroines are rolling up their sleeves and posing in a familiar way to support National Women’s Equality Day.

Kristin Chenoweth, Laura Benanti and Patina Miller were some of the women Wednesday on Twitter or Instagram striking the classic Rosie the Riveter pose.

Others included the leading ladies of “Hamilton” – Renie Elise Goldsberry, Jasmine Cephas Jones and Phillipa Soo – and the trio of women heading the “The King and I” – Kelli O’Hara, Ruthie Ann Miles and Ashley Park.

It’s an attempt to bring attention to the fact that there’s no Equal Rights Amendment and to help it get reintroduced in Congress.
