METRO DIGEST || Schools need instrument donations needed

Donate instruments

CAMPBELL

Campbell K-7 schools are accepting donations of used musical instruments.

Donations can be dropped off at the administrative office at Campbell Middle School, 2002 Community Circle, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Donors should disclose their name, the type of instrument and the cost of the instrument.

Principal James Klingensmith said the need for donations is a result of the district’s expanding music program. “With the growth of the program comes the need for more supplies,” he said.

For questions, contact Klingensmith at 330-799-6514.

I-80 closures delayed

AUSTINTOWN

A series of night closures on Interstate 80 has been delayed one week.

Ohio Department of Transportation spokesman Brent Kovacs said the work was delayed due to the contractor’s preference.

When those closures will occur next week will be released once they are determined.

The work was concentrated on I-80 at the Ohio Turnpike and was to feature lane closures overnight for pavement repair.

This work is part of the three-year, $108.4 million project to widen and repave the highway from state Route 46 to state Route 193/Belmont Avenue.

Park cleanup planned

HOWLAND

Howland Health & Wellness Committee, in partnership with other local groups, will begin cleaning up Bolindale Park on Ridge Road at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

The goal is to lay several tons of pea gravel under the swing sets, make minor repairs and improve the landscaping.

Anyone wishing to volunteer is urged to wear appropriate clothing, work gloves, and if possible, bring tools and supplies such as shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows. A hot dog roast will cap the event.

The park, which serves the Bolindale area, is in need of renovations and restoration, according to the committee, which has been working with township administrators to devise short-term and long-range plans to make the park more attractive and functional.

New light at stadium

CAMPBELL

The stadium at Campbell Memorial High School was one of many casualties of a storm last May when a light pole blew over and damaged the stadium’s bleachers.

In an effort to ensure the stadium will be ready for the fall football season, the board of education approved legislation last month to authorize $228,361 for a new light pole and repairs to the bleachers.

A claim paid by Liberty Mutual Insurance will cover the cost.

This morning, a large crane will install a new 90-foot light pole.

Campbell’s first home football game will be Friday at 7 p.m. against Lakeview High School.
