BP owner says cheap gas move is a way to promote renovations

YOUNGSTOWN

Ike Omran, owner of the BP gas station at 2069 East Midlothian Boulevard that was selling gas for 99 cents per gallon Thursday, says the move is his way of giving back to the community, and promoting renovations he recently made to the location.

“We took advantage of crude oil being below $38 a barrel,” he said. “Due to the low costs on the fuel, we decided to drop gas to 99 cents.”

“We are a community business. Everyone knows me – I’ve been here for 15 years,” he said. “It’s time to give something back to the people who gave me everything.”

Vehicles lined Youngstown-Poland Road Thursday morning. Some people reported waiting in line for more than an hour to take advantage of the deal.

Gas prices also were low at stations near BP: Valero and Fast Fuel – which also is owned by Omran – were selling it for $1.96 a gallon.
