“The Wizard of Oz,SDRq directed by Michael Cavalier, New Castle Playhouse, Augustine Auditorium, 212 E. Long Ave., New Castle, Pa., auditions Sunday and Tuesday. The Sunday auditions will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. and will be for the Munchkins, who must be age 6 or older and under 5 feet tall, and adult and teen auditions from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The Tuesday auditions will accept Munchkins from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and adults and teens from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. Callbacks, as needed, will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. next Thursday. All auditionees are asked to perform a vocal selection of their choice. Auditionees can use a CD (music only, no recorded vocals), sheet music (an accompanist will be available) or sing a capella. Participants should note that children will be photographed and videotaped as part of their audition. Performances will take place from Nov. 20 through Dec. 6. Opera Western Reserve’s “The Elixir of Love,SDRq Stambaugh Auditorium Grand Ballroom, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, auditions 7 p.m. Sept. 9. OWR is looking for all voices, ages and types for the chorus. Performance will take place Nov. 13. “How the Grouch Saved Christmas,SDRq an original musical directed by Dr. Jeanne Zingale, Penn State Shenango Auditorium, 147 Shenango Ave., Sharon, Pa., auditions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 12. All auditionees will be asked to perform a vocal selection from a familiar Christmas song (most characters sing, but not all), to improvise a short scene as a child’s toy, and to do a cold reading from the script. Callbacks will be the following Saturday if needed. Participants should note that auditioners will be photographed and videotaped as part of the audition process. Children under age 18 will need a parent or guardian present and written permission to take part in the audition/production. There will be an evening Dec. 4 and matinee Dec. 5 and 6 performances.
