Police at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital say a man managed to get inside a lab Sunday and take several vials of drugs.
Kevin Burkey, 50, of Center Road in Lowellville, is in the Mahoning County jail on $15,000 bond. He was arraigned before Judge Elizabeth A. Kobly in municipal court Monday on a charge of theft of dangerous drugs. He has a preliminary hearing set for Monday.
Reports from police for Mercy Health Systems said officers were called to a parking deck at St. Elizabeth on Sunday morning for a possible suicide. Reports said a man on top of the deck, later identified as Burkey, said he was upset because he had gone to the emergency room and he felt the staff would not treat him for the pain he was experiencing.
Reports said Burkey was talked out of harming himself and taken back to the emergency room by an ambulance that was followed by a cruiser. While there, reports said officers found vials of anesthetic.
Police managed to find out what part of the hospital the vials came from and they watched video footage and saw Burkey going into a room and them.
After Burkey was treated in the emergency room, he was booked into the county jail.
