The Ohio Green Party is urging opposition to a marijuana legalization issue on November’s ballot and support for two other state issues.

The party says it supports an end to the “drug war” that’s particularly hurt minority communities. But it can’t get behind state Issue 3, the proposal to legalize the substance for medicinal and personal use, because it retains felony charges for growing, possession or sale of certain amounts of marijuana and creates a monopoly for private vendors at 10 designated growing locations.

The party says it supports banning constitutional monopolies altogether but is endorsing Issue 2 because the measure at least makes it harder for Ohio’s Constitution to be used for private economic benefit.

Greens also favor Issue 1. That measure is seeking to make changes to Ohio’s redistricting system for drawing state legislative districts to make the districts more fair.
