YOUNGSTOWN

A smile stretched across Nathan Borosky’s face as the New Springfield boy bounced toward the sky on Xtreme Trampoline on Friday during Youngstown State University’s Welcome Week.

“That was fun,” said Nathan, 7.

The best part was when the employee from Ultra Sound Special Events Inc. of Toledo sprung him into the air, Nathan said.

His mother, Rebecca Borosky, is a YSU junior, majoring in medical laboratory science. She wasn’t sure if she would take a turn on the trampoline.

“It’s fun just watching him,” she said.

After removing the harness and getting off the apparatus, Nathan wanted to wait in line for another round. “I want to do that again,” he said.

Welcome Week activities continue through Sept. 1, the 48th anniversary of YSU joining the Ohio system of higher education.

Des’Jahnique Perry, a senior at Youngstown Early College, took a break from classes to execute a few back flips and jumps on the trampoline.

“It was great,” she said.

While there was a line for the trampoline, the one to build a penguin was even longer.

Students got the empty husk of a penguin and stuffed it with a soft, cottony filling.

Eric Ostrander, a senior from Columbiana who is majoring in graphic design, made his penguin for his girlfriend.

“She wanted me to make one, so I told her I’d make one for her,” he said.

His girlfriend is a recent graduate of Malone University in Canton.

Courtney Stock, a sophomore who’s majoring in social work, and Sadie Italiano, a freshman majoring in sociology, both from Austintown, took a break to build their penguins between classes.

“I thought it would be a way to kill time, and it’s cute,” Stock said.

She plans to keep her penguin – she named him Petey – on her bed along with the bear she made at Build-A-Bear.

Italiano appreciated that the toy was free.

“I’ll probably give it to my niece,” she said. “She’s 7.”
