The Austintown librarians expanded their venue of social media introductory courses by adding Pinterest for Seniors on Aug. 3.

Librarian Andrea Robinson taught the class, sharing her personal and professional knowledge about Pinterest with her students.

Many of the librarians regularly admit to using Pinterest for ideas for classes both with children and adults.

This is the first time the class was offered, sparking interest with the librarians after other social media classes have shown such success.

“Me and two of the other adult librarians discussed it and thought it would be a good thing to add after the Facebook class was popular,” Robinson said. “We thought, ‘Why don’t we add more social media-type website classes?’”

Sue Gentile, a library regular, said she goes to many of the classes the library offers at many different libraries.

“I’ve done some classes down at the main library and out at Newport,” Gentile said.

Gentile said she likes the opportunity that classes like this one can provide — for free.

“You can try something without having to pay for it,” Gentile said. “If you like it then you can put the money into it. If you don’t like it, then you don’t lose anything more than an hour or so.”

She said with this class she is hoping to pick up some tips with Pinterest she wouldn’t have known about otherwise.

Gentile said she is also hopeful that the library will continue doing classes like these, offering more opportunities for the community to learn.
