New indictment handed down in Winona Drive homicide

A Mahoning County grand Thursday indicted a 14th person in the death of a teen last August during a brawl on the South Side.

Darnell Wilkerson, 19, of Tyrell Avenue, faces charges of aggravated riot and involuntary manslaughter for the Aug. 17, 2014, death of Shawn Cortez, 17.

Cortez was killed during a brawl between two families on Winona Drive.

Of the others indicted in his case, all have had their cases settled except the brothers charged with the actual shooting death of Cortez – Dejon Jenkins, and his brother David, 18. Their trials are set for later this fall.

Wilkerson was arrested by police in February for the crime.

The grand jury also indicted these people on these charges. They will be arraigned before Judge Maureen A. Sweeney of common pleas court.

Quincy M. Montgomery, 19, Belvedere Avenue Southeast, Warren, passing bad checks and two counts of forgery.

Eddie J. Robinson Jr., 21, Hawn Street, possession of heroin.

Jeremy J. Everhart, 31, Palmer Avenue, theft.

Cathy Hanshaw, 34, Olive Street, Niles, unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Montez D. Brooks, 25, of Pittsburgh, identity fraud and forgery.

Brisco Huff, 58, Idlewood Avenue, possession of cocaine and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

Billy Kalogeras, 53, Spruce Street, Andover, possession of heroin and possession of a drug abuse instrument.

Norman Macias, 41, Sodom Hutchings Road, Fowler, possession of heroin.

Malcolm North, 30, Rockview Avenue, possession of marijuana with a forfeiture specification.

Dustin Beach, 29, Hitchcock Road, Boardman, four counts of theft and two counts of receiving stolen property.
