Gurska — Valley's new golf legend eyes Greatest triple crown today

CANFIELD – Matt Gurska won the 2014 Farmers National Bank Greatest Golfer of the Valley Men's Open title one year ago this week.

That week, no one knew who the 21-year-old was and even wondered if he snuck into the event from Pittsburgh.

This week, the Greatest community knows the Hermitage resident too well.

On Monday, his team won the Miller Lite Greatest Scramble Championship.

On Thursday night at Tippecanoe Country Club, he captured the Greatest Golfer of the Valley Long Drive Championship.

Today at Mill Creek, he starts his quest to defend his Men's Open title and pull off a first for Greatest Golfer — winning all three premier valley golfing titles in one week.

“I wanted to put my first two shots in play and was lucky enough to catch the second one and drive it. The main goal, however, was to finish in the top three in order to advance to the finals with a chance to win it all,” Gurska said.

He tees off at 9 a.m. with two Valley golf legends and previous Greatest champs —  Jonah Karzmer of The Lake Club and Mike Porter of Tippecanoe Country Club.

At Mill Friday, 290 golfers will compete for Greatest titles hosted by Farmers National Bank and all part of the Greatest Week in the Valley presented by Covelli Enterprises.
