WaterFire festival to feature live jazz

SHARON, PA.

The second WaterFire festival of the season will be Saturday in downtown Sharon with a theme of Jazz.

The arts and entertainment event runs from noon to 11 p.m. Admission is free.

As always, the focal point of the festival will be the lighting of the more than two dozen fire braziers that are anchored on the surface of the Shenango River.

One highlight will be a performance by [718], a jazz trio led by Phil Palombi, a Brookfield native and Dana School of Music graduate who now lives in New York. The trio will perform at 9 p.m. on the main stage. Palombi, a Grammy Award-winning bass player, and his trio also will play at Suzie’s Dog and Drafts in downtown Youngstown on Friday.

Noon to 1:15 p.m.: African dance with Kione Akuba

1:30 to 2:45 p.m.: Fosse, with Lesley Ross

3 to 4:15 p.m.: Big Apple, with Chris and Tom Cobb

4:14 to 5:45 p.m.: Lindy, with Chris and Tom Cobb

6:30 p.m.: The James Willaman Situation, followed by Social Dance

CHESTNUT STAGE

1:30 to 3 p.m.: Westminster Faculty Jazz Band

3:15 to 4:45 p.m.: Jeff Bremer Trio

5 to 6:30 p.m.: Phil Palombi Quartet

6:45 to 8:15 p.m.: Boardman High Jazz Band

WEST STAGE

1:30 to 3 p.m.: Damian Knapp

3:15 to 4:45 p.m.: Teddy Pantelas Trio

5 to 6:30 p.m.: Mitch Lawrence Quintet

6:45 to 8:15 p.m.: John Reese Quartet

BRIDGE STAGE

1:30 to 6 p.m.: Singing, dancing and music performances

6 to 7:30 p.m.: Drumming Circle and blessing of the Shenango River by Native American Leon Briggs

Dusk: Torch ceremony and brazier lighting on the Shenango River. Angela Grace will sing, and Spogga, the fire dancer, will perform on the bridge stage.

WINNER CENTER

Noon to 11 p.m.: Marketplace, art exhibition, random acts of artists

7 to 11 p.m.: Live entertainment
