POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Aug. 13

Arrest: Anthony C. Ciccolelli, 23, of Cobblers Run Drive, Poland, was charged with violating a protection order, a first-degree misdemeanor, after authorities alleged Ciccolelli was at his girlfriend’s Poland home, in violation of the order.

Aug. 14

Criminal mischief: A township woman reported damage to shingles on her township residence.

BOARDMAN

Aug. 12

Theft: Ross A. Bowser, 19, of Holbrook Road, Youngstown, was charged with stealing a $42 set of trading cards from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Domestic violence: Tiffany M. Brandle, 37, of Fink Road, Kensington, was charged with the crime after her husband alleged she had slapped his face, resulting in a cut to his lip, during an argument at Southern Park Mall.

Theft: Someone removed $10 and three phone chargers from a vehicle in the 4600 block of Canterbury Lane.

Counterfeit: A fake $20 bill was found in a safe at Taco Bell, 458 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Aug. 13

Assault: While dealing with an argument on Indianola Road, officers took 37-year-old Brian A. Cappelli into custody. Cappelli, of Gladstone Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a Columbiana County warrant charging assault.

Burglary: To a residence in the 100 block of Erskine Avenue, from which a 9 mm semiautomatic firearm and a car charger were taken.

Criminal damaging: A woman leaving a store in the 7100 block of Tiffany Boulevard discovered someone had walked and crawled on top of her vehicle, damaging the driver’s-side fender and denting its roof and hood.

Arrest: Dustin J. Estep, 23, of Pine Street, Struthers, was picked up at Boardman Area Court on Market Street and charged with violating a protection order. Estep’s former girlfriend alleged he had been at her place of employment at a Doral Drive business, in violation of the order.

Theft: Brandon O. Grove, 29, of West Harvey Street, Struthers, was charged in the theft of six items valued at $215 from Walmart.

Burglary: Occurred at an apartment in the 70 block of Mayflower Drive. The burglar apparently had opened a safe, though it was undetermined if anything was missing.

Arrest: Police responded to a report of someone slumped in a vehicle at a Boardman-Poland Road fast-food restaurant, where they charged 66-year-old Daniel C. Morgan of Sheridan Road, Youngstown, with operating a vehicle impaired. The car had sat in the drive-through for about 20 minutes, an employee estimated.

Burglary: Nicole M. Rogenski, 30, of Maple Street, Canfield, faced a burglary charge after someone had forcibly entered a foreclosed home in the 1800 block of Brandon Avenue via a rear window. Copper piping was recovered, police said.

Theft: Authorities charged a 16-year-old Youngstown boy with one count each of theft, obstructing official business and unauthorized use of property after having responded to a complaint on Danbury Drive regarding a stolen camera. The teen also was wanted on a warrant from the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center in Youngstown.

Theft: A Ridgeview Drive man told police he gave another man $350 to buy parts for and perform labor on one of his cars, but that the man did neither.

Burglary: A Glenwood Avenue man reported someone drove out of his driveway in a blue pickup truck after the homeowner had seen the person in his garage. A neighbor reported the perpetrator had tried to steal a lawn mower, a report said.

Robbery: A Youngstown girl, 17, was charged with robbery after seven articles of women’s clothing valued at $34 were stolen from Gabriel Bros., 850 Boardman-Poland Road, and when loss-prevention officials alleged the teen had fought with them as they tried to detain her. Also, 19-year-old Laquasha K. Mitchell of Palmer Avenue, Youngstown, was taken into custody on a Niles warrant charging theft.

Aug. 14

Theft: Two men and a woman reportedly stole a smartphone and a $28 dress from Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road.

Harassment: A worker for a Market Street motel said a former tenant had made three such calls to the establishment.

Identity theft: A Green Bay Drive man found out his credit card had been used on three occasions in Miami without authorization.

Theft: A man reported a $1,500 set of golf clubs stolen from his vehicle while he was at a Doral Drive big-box store.

Identity fraud: A Lockwood Boulevard man learned that his personal information had been used without permission to open a credit-card account.

Fraud: An official with a Karago Avenue business reported having accepted an online order for a $7,824 car engine from Atlanta before finding out the action was fraudulent and that money was deducted from the business’s account.

Arrest: James C. Gurney, 50, of West Chalmers Avenue, Youngstown, was arrested at a Market Street motel. He was wanted on a Liberty warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court on a theft charge.

Theft: Justin M. Luzier of Warren Avenue, Poland, was phone booked at the Mahoning County jail on a theft charge. The 26-year-old Luzier was accused of leaving Michael Alberini’s Restaurant, 1140 Boardman-Poland Road, on Aug. 2 without paying a $52.50 food bill.

Theft: Authorities picked up 51-year-old Susan L. Witherspoon of Chestnut Street, Leetonia, who was wanted on a felony-theft charge related to an April 15 situation in which an employee with a Crossroads Drive business reported her purse had been stolen while she was on break.

Arrest: Officers took into custody 32-year-old Tearra C. Dates at her Shields Road Apartment. The Boardman woman was accused of failing to appear in court.

Theft: Authorities charged 21-year-old Stephanie J. Staph with theft after alleging Staph, of Pila Court, New Castle, Pa., had stolen $75 worth of women’s clothing from Victoria’s Secret in Southern Park Mall.

Aug. 15

Arrest: A traffic stop near Market Street resulted in a charge of operating a vehicle impaired against Cory L. Thomas, 32, of Cleveland.

Arson: A man in the 2000 block of Wolosyn Circle discovered his patio chairs and a bucket had been burned on his apartment patio. Also, the landlord noticed damage to part of the building’s brick foundation and to a set of sliding-glass doors.

Theft: A man reportedly stole a $300 fan from Bed, Bath & Beyond, 550 Boardman-Poland Road.

Burglary: To an apartment in the 4200 block of Glenwood Avenue. Stolen were two diamond rings, for an estimated loss of $3,000. Arrest: After attempting to stop a vehicle in the 8000 block of Market Street, authorities apprehended Bobbi T. Olds of Applecrest Court, Boardman, and charged the 36-year-old Olds with obstructing official business after saying she had led them on a foot chase.

Theft: Five people left Steak ‘n’ Shake, 6786 Applewood Blvd., without paying a $34.44 food bill.

Theft: A $500 laptop computer and a $40 bag were taken from a vehicle parked in the 60 block of Alburn Drive.

Domestic violence: Emmanuel Jones, 31, of Applecrest Court, Boardman, was booked at the Mahoning County jail after a July 12 situation in which his wife alleged Jones had threatened to kill her as she sought a protection order against him.

Vandalism: A 1991 Chevrolet vehicle was found running with a damaged steering column at Donnell Ford, 7955 Market St., apparently after someone had tried to steal the car.

Theft: A set of headphones and a key ring were removed from a car in the 4100 block of Windsor Road.

Arrest: Police conducting a vehicle check neat Stanton Avenue took into custody 30-year-old David T. Mauzy Jr. of Detroit Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on a warrant from the Trumbull County 911 center charging failure to appear in court.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 4100 block of Market Street entered a truck, cut a portion of the driver’s seat and tore off two sun visors. Damage came to $500.

Aug. 16

Assault: A woman reported having been jumped and struck several times in the face while leaving her Hillman Way apartment.

Theft by deception: A Huntington Court woman told police a caller claiming to represent Microsoft Corp. informed the accuser that she had a computer virus and got her to pay $210, supposedly to remove the malware, before she discovered it was a scam.

Domestic violence: Lance M. Costello, 38, of Southern Boulevard, Boardman, faced a felony domestic-violence charge after a woman alleged that during an argument about their relationship, Costello had grabbed and twisted her arm and tried to place her in a chokehold. The charge was elevated to a felony because of a prior conviction, a report showed.

Theft: A Newton Falls woman reported her purse stolen while in the 20 block of Carter Circle.

Assault: A Southern Boulevard man alleged a neighbor had punched his face and pinned him to the ground during a fight between them. Also, the accuser’s girlfriend reported having been pushed when she tried to intervene.
