Senior citizens can tour farm for free

SALEM

Forever Safe Farm Animal Education Center Inc., 3155 McCracken Road, will host a free Senior Citizens Tour Day for adults 55 and older Friday. Tours are planned for noon and 2 p.m. and will last about an hour.

It is a walking tour, so participants are urged to wear comfortable shoes. Forever Safe Farm will display its animals during the tour, including llamas, camels, wallabies, deer and more.

Forever Safe Farm is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization helping more than 100 abused and neglected animals with a focus on animal education. For information, visit www.facebook.com/foreversafefarm.

Felonious-assault case

HUBBARD

The pretrial for William Shaffer, 63, of Hubbard had been set for Sept. 3 in Girard Municipal Court.

Police arrested him on Moore Street Aug. 7 on a charge of felonious assault by means of a deadly weapon.

According to a police report, a 51-year-old woman told officers Shaffer had thrown things at her, held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her.

Light Up the Square

WARREN

Fundraising is underway for Light Up the Square, an attempt to enhance Warren’s Courthouse Square with permanent and seasonal lighting in memory of Jim Economos, who died in April and was the longtime owner of the Saratoga Restaurant just off the square.

The project’s goals are to enhance 22 pear trees along the perimeter of the square with spot lighting and add seasonal lighting of the gazebo, fountain, lampposts and Christmas tree.

Donations can be made at Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, 170 North Park Ave. Installation is expected to take place in October and November.

7 hurt in accident

BRACEVILLE

Seven people were injured in a two-vehicle accident at state Routes 5 and 534 Tuesday afternoon, according to Vindicator broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV.

Five rescue squads were called to the intersection from surrounding communities before 2 p.m. after a sport utility vehicle and a minivan collided.

Six people were in the minivan, including three children, two of whom were transported by medical helicopter to Akron Children’s Hospital.

Three adults in the minivan and the driver of the SUV were transported to hospitals in Warren, Ravenna and Akron by rescue crews called to the scene.

The names of the victims and the extent of their injuries were not available.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol diverted traffic away from the area until 3:30 p.m. so helicopters could land and troopers could conduct an investigation.

Interstates closed after 2-vehicle accident

AUSTINTOWN

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle accident involving a dump truck and passenger vehicle Tuesday evening.

The accident occurred at the westbound ramp from Interstate 680 onto Interstate 80 before 5 p.m., closing roadways for about an hour. Minor injuries were reported, but no one was transported to the hospital.
