Buffett fans scolded for leaving homemade toilets at show
MANSFIELD, Mass.
Parrotheads apparently are too busy wasting away in Margaritaville to wait in line for the bathroom.
Mansfield police told The Sun Chronicle that despite warnings against the practice, many fans at the Jimmy Buffett concert Saturday at the Xfinity Center brought homemade, portable toilets for the party in the parking lot.
Lt. Sam Thompson said the most-common model is a 5-gallon bucket with its rim lined with a foam pool noodle for a seat, stashed inside a tent.
Thompson estimates that 75 to 100 people were instructed to take down makeshift outhouses, but officers found seven to 10 left behind after the show.
Chief Ronald Sellon said it’s “unsanitary and just disrespectful” to leave the latrines behind for others to dispose of, not to mention a health-code violation.
Woman sets fire to training dummy at Pennsylvania bar
PORTAGE, Pa.
Police said a woman got lit up at a central Pennsylvania bar before she lit a training dummy on fire.
Greenfield Township police have charged 43-year-old Star Jackson, of Portage, with arson, public drunkenness and other crimes stemming from the July 18 incident at the Blue Knob All Seasons Resort’s Clubhouse Bar & Grill.
Police said the dummy was stored there because the resort hosts training for the Global Powerline Academy. The school teaches power-line workers how to avoid danger.
Police said the dummy was tied to a utility pole when it was set on fire. When the fire burned through the rope, the dummy fell to the floor and was quickly extinguished.
Defense attorney Mark Zearfus said Jackson acknowledges lighting the fire, but he’s hoping she eventually will plead guilty to a lesser charge.
Thieves uncap 1,200 beers in German store seeking prize
BERLIN
Police in western Germany are looking for thieves who broke into a store selling alcohol and stole the caps off 1,200 bottles of beer – presumably to collect points for a prize contest – yet left the suds themselves untouched.
Essen police said Tuesday the thieves broke into the shop in Muelheim an der Ruhr overnight Sunday and stole the caps from the popular Koenig Pilsner. They kept those with points toward prizes such as Bose speakers or a Black & Decker cordless drill, left dozens of “good luck try again” caps on the ground and didn’t drink a single beer.
Given the number of caps removed, police said they assume that more than one person was involved in the operation. So far they have no suspects.
