Gas prices rise in Northeast Ohio
YOUNGSTOWN
Northeast Ohio gas prices have jumped 44 cents this week to $2.83, up from last week’s average of $2.38, according to AAA East Central’s Fuel Gauge Report.
The national average is $2.67. The gas-price average in Youngstown this week is $2.67.
Last week ended a 27-day streak of lower gas prices, as prices instead rose consecutively for the past six days.
Due to unscheduled repair work at BP’s Whiting, Ind., crude distillation unit, the Midwest has experienced noticeable supply shortages, which in part have caused significant price increases in the region.

IRS: Hack bigger than first thought
WASHINGTON
A computer breach at the IRS in which thieves stole tax information from thousands of taxpayers is much bigger than the agency originally disclosed.
An additional 220,000 potential victims had information stolen from an IRS website as part of a sophisticated scheme to use stolen identities to claim fraudulent tax refunds, the IRS said Monday. The revelation more than doubles the total number of potential victims, to 334,000.
