AUSTINTOWN

A seventh-grade girls basketball coach was arraigned on child-pornography charges Monday.

Rex Bosley, 59, of Austintown was arraigned Monday afternoon in Mahoning County Area Court here on three charges of child porn. Those are one count each of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, pandering obscenity involving a minor and illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance. His bond was set at $9,000 cash or surety bond, with a condition of no contact with minors.

Bosley was approved by the Austintown Board of Education to coach seventh- grade girls basketball at Austintown Middle School in November, his first year with the district. He was not a classroom teacher.

The school board has set a special meeting at 4 p.m. today to take a vote on Bosley’s employment with the district. The school board approved his re-hire at its May 13 meeting.

Bosley will be in court again for a preliminary hearing here at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 23.

He was arrested Aug. 12 at his home, where authorities seized a laptop computer and phone as evidence after Bosley consented to a search of the residence.

Officials from Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine’s office said after his arrest that no local victims were identified in the material. The investigation is ongoing.

The following agencies worked together on the case: Austintown Police Department; Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation; the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and the Ohio Attorney General’s Crimes Against Children Unit.

Austintown Detective Sgt. Kathy Dina said BCI spearheaded the investigation, which began in March.
