YNDC and Mahoning County Land Bank join forces to rehab vacant city homes
YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. and the Mahoning County Land Bank are teaming up to rehabilitate vacant homes in the city.
Officials with the two organizations said the land bank is using its power to purchase abandoned tax-delinquent homes, turn them over to the YNDC, which improves them and then sell the properties at market price. The two split the profits.
YNDC uses its portion to continue funding improvements for this program. The land bank is using its share for various neighborhood programs.
YNDC has spent about a month making improvements to a house at 3215 Neosho Road on the city’s South Side and will be done in about two weeks. The improvement work will cost in the upper $30,000 range and be sold for $65,000, said Ian Beniston, YNDC’s executive director.
About six houses will go through this process this year and at least 10 next year, he said.
