Toledo nursing college reprimanded for exam requirement

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — A university program has been reprimanded for violating Ohio Board of Nursing policies by changing requirements for students in the middle of an academic program.

The Blade newspaper reports the University of Toledo College of Nursing has been put on a probationary status for two years.

The board took issue with the college requiring nursing students seeking bachelor’s degrees to pass an internal exam before it would send documentation enabling them to sit for a licensure test. The board’s program manager for education says such exams are allowed but must be in place when students begin their studies, not added once coursework is underway.

A university spokesman says there was a misunderstanding about the implementation of the requirement. He says the reprimand doesn’t affect the college’s accreditation.
