Meeting at 5 today on Youngstown economic development plan

YOUNGSTOWN — City council’s housing and economic development committee is meeting at 5 p.m. today on the sixth floor of city hall to hear a presentation about the economic-development plan being put together by the Youngstown State University’s Center for Urban and Regional Studies.

The plan will be finished next month. The center received a $220,000 grant from the federal government to develop the plan.

Goals of the plan include filling the gaps in the workforce, improving downtown and creating an “anchor institution consortium” consisting of YSU, hospitals, banks, the city and others to direct and focus economic-development activities.
