Beef tallow products shipped to Ohio being recalled

Givaudan Flavors Corp., a company based in Florence, Ky. is recalling 3,950 pounds of beef tallow products originating in Australia and distributed to outlets in Ohio and Texas.

Before entering the U.S., the products were not presented for inspection by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and therefore could be harmful, officials said.

The tallow was used for beef flavoring.

Fifty-pound bags of powdered beef flavor bearing the generic label “Givaudan Flavors Corporation NATURAL BEEF FLAVOR WONF” are subject to recall. It belonged to batches labeled DV00130741, DV00130967, DV00134737 and DV00136669. The products were produced on May 15, May 18, July 7 and July 30, 2015, according to the USDA.

When available, the USDA will post the retail distribution list of the product at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.

The USDA has deemed the recalled products to be a “Class 1” risk, which means that there is a “reasonable” probability the product could cause serious harm.

There have not yet been reports of people suffering adverse health effects after consuming the product, the FSIS said. Contact your health care provider if you are concerned about a reaction. For further questions, call Givaudan’s customer care director at (513) 948-4905 or the USDA hotline at (888) 674-6854. Report a problem at www.fsis.usda.gov/reportproblem.
