Youngstown firefighters battle three blazes

Between Saturday night and Sunday morning, Youngstown firefighters responded to three separate fires in vacant buildings.

At around 8p.m. Saturday night, fire crews responded to a fire in a vacant home on Hickory Street. The fire caused about $8,000 of damage, Fire Chief John O’Neill, Jr. said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and there were no reports of injuries.

Several hours later, shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, firefighters went to Donald Avenue and contained a fire that caused $10,000 of damage, according to O’Neill. There were no reports of injuries.

Firefighters spent almost 15 hours battling another fire that damaged at least three vacant buildings on Market Street in the Uptown District.

Crews arrived at the fire at about 3 a.m. Sunday morning and finished containing it shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday evening, O’Neill said.

Officials are still investigating the fire’s cause and whether or not it caused injuries.

Officials are also investigating whether the three fires were related.
