Free webinar will target certification, grant resources

The Oh-Penn Manufacturing Collaborative is hosting a free webinar from 10 to 11 a.m. Aug. 26 for regional manufacturers to learn more about the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council’s certified production technician certification that can verify the mastery of applicant and worker skills.

Attendees also will learn how they can tap into more than $300,000 in grant resources to offset training and certification costs.

Farris Marketing creates site for BSHM

YOUNGSTOWN

Farris Marketing of Boardman has again created a website for the Youngstown and Columbus-based architectural firm BSHM.

The firm’s website is being given a new look and added functionality through technology that will enable company personnel to make additions and changes to the site.

An extensive portfolio of more than 100 projects the firm has completed also is part of the site.

Applications taken for apprenticeships

BOARDMAN

The Plumbers and Pipefitters of Mahoning Valley Joint Apprenticeship Committee will accept applications for the plumber, pipefitter and refrigeration apprenticeship starting Sept. 16.

From noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Dec. 16, Jan. 20, Feb. 17, March 16 and April 20, applications will be accepted at the Local Union 396, 493 Bev Road, Building 3.

Those applying must be 18 years old with a valid driver’s license and a high-school diploma or equivalent. A transcript of grades is required.

Applicants must be a resident of Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties and able to perform the physical work involved in the trade.

A fee of $45 will be charged for processing the application.

Roofers committee takes applications

VIENNA

The Roofers Joint Apprenticeship Committee of Mahoning Valley will accept applications though Oct. 30 at The Builders Association at 1372 Youngstown-Kingsville Road SE.

Applicants must have these items in their application: a transcript of high- school grades or GED test scores; a military service certificate, if applicable; and a valid driver’s license.

Those applying must be 18; have a high-school diploma or the equivalent; must be physically able to perform the work; and must be able to pass a drug screen and physical.

The apprentices make from $12.22 per hour, plus $2.90 in benefits during the first year up to $22 per hour, plus $15.82 in benefits during the fifth year.

Upon completion of the program, the current pay rate is $24.44 per hour, plus $15.82 in benefits for a journeyman roofer.
