Cedar Point is delaying an announcement about a major new ride opening next year after a man looking for a cellphone was hit and killed by a roller coaster.

The park in Sandusky said in an email to media Friday that it has “respectfully postponed” the planned Tuesday announcement, expected to be the addition of a new roller coaster opening in 2016. It has not been rescheduled.

Forty-five-year-old James A. Young of East Canton was killed Thursday when he jumped over a security fence to retrieve a cellphone that he dropped while riding the Raptor. He was struck by the 57 mph ride or someone on it. Nobody else was hurt.
