Bethel Friends Church, 2771 Spitler Road, will present a free concert featuring God’s Quad quartet at 10:40 a.m. Aug. 23.

An evening of contemporary music featuring recording artist David Wells is planned at 6:30 p.m. next Saturday at Calvary United Methodist Church, 12062 South Avenue Ext.

Wells also will perform Aug. 23 during the 10:30 a.m. worship service and at 3 p.m.

He was an American Smooth Jazz nomineee for Gospel Jazz Artist of the Year.

A free-will offering will be taken.

Movie screening

NEW CASTLE, PA.

Scott Mendes, who appeared on Crossing Paths TV, will be at First Assembly of God, 2021 Pulaski Road, for a screening of his movie “Nail 32” at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Mendes is a world champion bull rider from Texas.

It is open to the public.

Theology on Tap

YOUNGSTOWN

Theology on Tap, a ministry for young adults age 18 to 39, will meet from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at the MVR restaurant, 410 Walnut St.

The Rev. Thomas Eisweirth, pastor of Blessed Sacrament Church in Warren, will speak on “How to Remain a Christian in this Secular World.”

Choir season

HUBBARD

The choir of Hubbard First Presbyterian Church, 22 Westview Ave., is open to new singers. Rehearsals are at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, starting Sept. 2.

Paige Lape is director, and accompanist is Karen Considine. Participants need not be church members.

Lape also directs Simple Gifts Interfaith Choir, a community choir outreach of Hubbard First Presbyterian Church.

That choir will present a Christmas cantata Dec. 6. Rehearsals will be announced.

Unity Sunday set

SANDY LAKE, PA.

Methodists United in Faith, which includes Pennsylvania churches at Hendersonville, Lakeview, Mount Hope, Stoneboro and Vincent, have planned a Unity Sunday at 11 a.m. Sunday in Goddard State Park at the pavilion at boat launch No. 3.

After the service, a picnic lunch is planned.

Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish or dessert, their own table service, lawn chairs and games. Meat and drinks will be provided.

Music will be provided by MUF’s Praise Band.

In case of rain, the picnic will be at Mount Hope United Methodist Church, Georgetown and Condit roads.
