POLAND

Joe and Pastor Deborah Troester, liaisons for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) to the national Lutheran churches of Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar and South Sudan in East Africa, will give a presentation at 6 p.m. Sunday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2985 Center Road.

The Lutheran churches of Tanzania and Madagascar are among the largest in the Lutheran World Federation and self-sufficient in most matters. The ELCA provides technical and financial assistance alongside its companion dioceses in these national churches in cooperation with others in the Lutheran World Federation. The churches of South Sudan and Kenya are in mission development.

The Troesters previously served in Puerto Rico and the Central African Republic. She is an ordained pastor in the Presbyterian Church USA, full-communion partner with the ELCA. He is a hydrogeologist with experience in world water development, an interest shared with Prince of Peace’s Stu Smith, who facilitates water projects in Tanzania.

Concert at church

CORTLAND

Hamilton Road will be in concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Bible Church, 2878 Warren-Meadville Road.

In 2002, the group began singing together in a church in Columbus and has recorded four CDs.

Nursery provided. A free-will offering will be accepted.

St. Rocco feast

BOARDMAN

St. James’ Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave., invites the community to attend its annual commemoration of St. Rocco at 10 a.m. Sunday, his Feast Day. St. Rocco is best remembered for healing the sick and as the patron saint of dogs.

The festival Eucharist will be followed by the traditional St. Rocco’s-style cavatelli dinner from noon to 5 p.m. Take-out will be available. The food will be prepared by the original cooks of the former St. Rocco’s Episcopal Church in Youngstown, which closed in 2007. The menu includes homemade cavatelli, meatballs, bread, tossed salad, dessert and beverage. Prices are $10 for adults and $6 for children age 10 and under.

Groening lecture

Bruno Groening Circle of Friends will have a 90-minute lecture, featuring Arlene Barkan, leader of Youngstown and Cleveland Communities, and Internet Children’s Community of North America, at 6 p.m. Thursday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 550 N. Broad St.

A documentary film will be shown. Admission is free.

The Circle of Friends is not affiliated with Lord of Life Lutheran Church, nor any other religion.

Labyrinth walk

VILLA MARIA, PA.

Villa Maria will host a guided labyrinth walk from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday on the grounds of Villa Maria Community Center.

The theme will be “Path of Presence.”

Walks are offered at no charge. Free-will offerings are accepted to help continue services that VMESC offers.
