Boil alert lifted

CAMPBELL

The city’s water department has lifted a boil alert instituted Sunday after a water-main break at Coitsville Road. After the break, residents reported low water pressure. A water department spokesman said Friday water pressure has since been restored and it is now safe to drink water without boiling it first.

Trail section closed

BRISTOLVILLE

A portion of the Western Reserve Greenway bike and hike trail between Hyde-Oakfield Road and Mahan Denman Road is closed for inspection of a bridge.

Zachary Svette, operations director of the Trumbull County MetroParks, said he is hopeful the closure will not last longer than a week or two until the bridge can be inspected.

The detour will be Hyde-Oakfield Road to Oakfield North Road to Mahan Denman Road.

Doctor’s death probed

SHARON, PA.

A 64-year-old doctor found dead in a vacant house she owned died of stab wounds, but police said an investigation was continuing and nobody has been charged.

Search warrants show Dr. Mary Bovier’s boyfriend found her body, with a knife by her hand, Wednesday morning at the house in the city. Dr. Bovier was an osteopath who specialized in geriatric medicine in Masury in Trumbull County.

The warrants say the house where Dr. Bovier died is near another home she shared with her boyfriend and his brother, who saw her alive about three hours before her body was found.

Sharon police have not filed charges and haven’t released the name of a “person of interest” they have questioned in Dr. Bovier’s death. The investigation continued Friday. Wounded by gunshot

YOUNGSTOWN

A 19-year-old man was found wounded at about 2:25 a.m. Friday.

Reports said police found the victim in a car at East Judson Avenue and Southern Boulevard on the South Side. He told police he did not know who shot him or where he was shot. The man was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Detectives said the man is in critical condition but expected to survive.

3 vacant-house fires

YOUNGSTOWN

Firefighters battled blazes at three vacant homes late Thursday and early Friday.

Fire Investigator Capt. Alvin Ware said crews were called to homes on Marion and Ellenwood avenues on the South Side and Byron Street on the East Side, beginning at 10 p.m.

Ware said the home on Ellenwood is the same one that already had been set ablaze once and also was shot at twice earlier this month.

Beaver Twp. house fire

NORTH LIMA

Firefighters from several communities in Mahoning County fought a house fire in Beaver Township Friday.

According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, the fire started at about 11 a.m. in a vacant, single-story brick home along New Buffalo Road near Grandview Boulevard.

Departments from Canfield, Boardman and Springfield Townships were called in to help battle the blaze.

The same house was the scene of a fire earlier this year. There were no reports of injuries.

Arrested after chase

YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested a man at about 3:10 p.m. Friday who ran through several yards after police tried to stop a car he was driving.

Reports said officers noticed a car driven by Rodney Smith, 43, of Youngstown driving at a high rate of speed down Guadalupe Avenue on the North Side.

Reports said when police caught up to the car on Redondo Road, Smith got out and was running away. He ran through several yards before he was caught in the backyard of a home in the 2000 block of Felicia Avenue. Reports said he told police he ran because he has a suspended driver’s license.

Smith was taken to the Mahoning County jail on charges of obstructing justice and driving under suspension.
