POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland, Boardman and Austintown townships and the city of Canfield:

POLAND

Aug. 7

Attempted theft: A Shetland Lane man saw that someone had tried to steal items from his vehicle.

Aug. 12

Arrest: Jeffrey A. Wholf, 47, of Spitler Road, Poland, was charged with violating a protection order, a first-degree misdemeanor.

BOARDMAN

Aug. 7

Aggravated menacing: A man and his girlfriend in the 5700 block of Sheridan Road told police a man had threatened them with a baseball bat and said he would kill them.

Burglary: Took place at a residence in the 5700 block of Border Avenue, where officers discovered a screen had been removed from a window. Property stolen included a camcorder, a drill and several Sony PlayStation 3 games.

Criminal damaging: A township woman noticed someone had tossed eggs at, spray-painted and placed a dent in her car while she was in the 4100 block of Glenwood Avenue.

Theft: A 16-year-old Youngstown girl was accused of stealing $37 worth of merchandise, including a pair of socks, from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Theft: A man reported a tool bag containing various tools stolen from a construction site in the 7400 block of Market Street.

Burglary/assault: A Sheridan Road man told police another man beat him up and broke into his apartment.

Theft: A woman discovered three rings missing from her locker at a U.S. Route 224 fitness center. The loss was estimated at $850.

Vandalism: A car in the 40 block of Shields Road was struck with paint balls.

Aug. 8

Theft: Officers took custody of 39-year-old Joseph A. Gonzalez of Eighth Street, Struthers, who was accused of removing a trailer hitch from a vehicle July 25 in the 70 block of Arlene Avenue.

Arrest: Police charged 23-year-old Kara E. Kerr of Cornell Avenue, Youngstown, with complicity to theft and obstructing official business after having responded to a shoplifting situation at Walmart. Kerr lied to officers, hindering their investigation, they alleged.

Menacing: A construction worker at a South Avenue motel alleged a co-worker carrying a piece of wood made a threatening gesture toward him.

Theft: A family member of a Cleveland woman reported her purse stolen from her vehicle at Southern Park Mall.

Criminal damaging: Someone spray-painted part of a home in the 7400 block of Sierra Madre Trail.

Theft: A woman reported $30, various pieces of paperwork and other items missing from her mother’s room at a South Avenue health-care facility.

Theft: Jeffrey J. Slaina of Pinehurst Avenue, Youngstown, faced charges of theft and possession of criminal tools after a smartphone was taken from Walmart. The 47-year-old Slaina also used a knife to remove the item, a report stated.

Theft by deception: While answering a shoplifting call at Walmart, police charged 31-year-old Adrienne A. Parish of South Middle Street, Columbiana, with one misdemeanor count of theft by deception when, they alleged, Parish had switched the original price tags from five articles of clothing, resulting in a $35.55 loss.

Theft: A temporary license plate was stolen off a vehicle in the 4000 block of Glenwood Avenue.

Aug. 9

Auto theft: A 2003 Oldsmobile Alero was stolen in the 4200 block of Glenwood Avenue.

Identity theft: Police in Ashtabula picked up Stefanie M. Ingramm, 34, of Geneva, who faced two felony identity-theft charges related to a July 20 situation in which a Lockwood Boulevard woman discovered two accounts with a utility company had been opened in her name, resulting in a $510 outstanding bill.

Theft: A Youngstown man reported his wallet stolen while at a Doral Drive grocery store.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 4600 block of South Avenue was found with all of its tires flattened.

Truck theft: A 2008 Dodge Ram truck was missing from a driveway in the 5100 block of Tippecanoe Road.

Theft: A Bluetooth speaker and a $15,000 pendant were removed from a car in the 4200 block of Glenwood Avenue.

Burglary: To an apartment in the 6600 block of Southern Boulevard via the front door. Stolen was a .40-caliber pistol.

Theft: Authorities charged 41-year-old Scott P. Payne with theft and possession of criminal tools after a $60 Bluetooth wireless speaker was stolen from Walmart. The Canton man also used a razor blade to cut the packaging, a report showed.

Aug. 10

Theft: A man reported a stove, a washing machine and a dryer stolen from a piece of rental property he owns in the 7400 block of Sugartree Drive.

Theft: A woman reportedly stole five T-shirts and other merchandise from Five Below, 411 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: Authorities charged 47-year-old Dean D. Varie with one count of theft. Varie, of Maplewood Avenue, Struthers, was accused of stealing an 18-volt power drill and a wrench from Walmart.

Theft: Kayla L. Kurelko, 18, of Leona Street, Sharpsville, Pa., was charged with stealing $40 worth of makeup from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall.

Aug. 11

Theft: Three catalytic converters and a box of tools were stolen from Master Auto Sales & Service, 309 W. Midlothian Blvd.

Theft: Officers charged 24-year-old Shawndez P. Thompson after alleging Thompson, of Firnley Avenue, Youngstown, stole two sets of headphones and a package of chicken from Walmart.

Menacing: A Youngstown man said he was harassed and threatened while in the 5700 block of Sheridan Road.

Theft: A gym bag was missing from a car in the 400 block of Old Shay Lane.

Assault: A township woman alleged two women had struck her 17-year-old son several times in the face and tried to hit him with a large stick while in the 4100 block of Market Street.

Breaking and entering: Authorities found a side door open after someone had apparently entered The Performing Arts Center, 615 Boardman-Canfield Road. Nothing appeared to have been taken, however.

Theft: A $100 bicycle was removed from a front yard in the 100 block of Homestead Drive.

Theft: Two Youngstown boys, 10 and 13, were accused of taking a container of BBs and other small items from Walmart.

Theft: An in-dash compact-disc player and a lift gate were stolen from two vehicles at Donnell Ford, 7955 Market St.

Identity theft: A Glenwood Avenue woman reported an attorney’s office contacted her regarding a $2,553 unpaid debt, then found out someone without authorization had opened an account with her personal information.

Theft: Two cellphone chargers and miscellaneous personal items were stolen from a vehicle in the 1700 block of Nova Lane.

Theft: A woman reportedly stole $30 worth of clothing from Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd.

Burglary: Someone used a key to enter a home in the 100 block of Erskine Avenue through a rear door before stealing a Sony PlayStation2 system, a laptop computer, a 40-inch TV, a satellite box and a DVD player. The theft came to $1,311.

Forgery: A Masury man reported one check each had been written without permission at two township big-box stores. The loss came to $446.52.

Theft: Two Boardman boys, 11 and 15, and a 13-year-old Youngstown boy were accused of stealing $156 worth of clothing from Macy’s in Southern Park Mall. The 13-year-old also was wanted on a warrant charging receiving stolen property.

Aug. 12

Arrest: Richard N. Lobaugh Jr., 32, of South Main Street, Austintown, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired after authorities had pulled him over near Route 224 and Interstate 680. Lobaugh’s blood-alcohol count was 0.157, nearly double the legal limit, a report showed.

AUSTINTOWN

Aug. 3

Theft: Two prescriptions were stolen from an auto that was parked with its windows down at the Austintown Library, 600 S. Raccoon Road.

Recovered property: A Pennsylvania driver’s license was found in the 100 block of Forest Hill Drive.

Fraud: Unauthorized charges were made to a Home Savings and Loan debit card that belonged to a person who lives in a home in the 5000 block of Callaway Circle.

Theft: An envelope of money was left behind and stolen at Cashland, 4805 Mahoning Ave.

Theft: A wedding ring was taken from a home in the 3000 block of Dunbar Ave.

Theft: A baby stroller was taken from a home in the 4000 block of New Road.

Assault: A woman told police she was assaulted by another female at New Road and Moorefield Drive.

Drug offense: Police arrested Christopher Thompson, 30, of Washington Square Drive, Austintown, was also issued a summons for drug abuse of marijuana and possession of drug abuse paraphernalia.

Aug. 4

Recovered property: Three cellphones were located at Family Farm & Home, 4477 Mahoning Ave.

Aug. 5

Theft: A validation sticker was stolen from an auto at an apartment in the 900 block of Compass West.

Recovered property: A woman’s purse was recovered at Fred Martin Ford, 4701 Mahoning Ave.

Theft: Household items were stolen by a moving company at a home in the 1000 block of Cedarwood Drive.

Theft: An iPad was stolen at Giant Eagle, 5220 Mahoning Ave.

Aug. 6

Theft: Trailer equipment was stolen at Cerni Motors, 3751 Cerni Place.

Warrant: Police arrested James Byers, 44, of Garden Street, Warren, on a warrant for failure to appear and contempt of court in Newton Falls.

Aug. 7

Drug offense: Police issued a summons to Cortland Casey, 37, of North Brockway Avenue, Youngstown, on a charge of possession of marijuana.

Criminal damaging: A car hood was damaged at El Jalapeno, 4626 Mahoning Ave.

Drug offense: Police issued a summons to Charles Magan, 27, of Cooper Street, Youngstown, on charges of drug abuse of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Aug. 8

Drug offense: Police issued a summons to Damon Collins, 23, of Tanglewood Drive, Boardman, on charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Aug. 9

Weapons offense: Police issued a summons to Quentin Burley, 30, of Warren Avenue, Youngstown, on charges of possession of a loaded handgun accessible to the driver or passenger in a motor vehicle, improper handling of a firearm, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Criminal damaging: Vehicle damage was reported at Taco Bell, 4523 Mahoning Ave.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle was shot and damaged with a BB gun at a home in the 6000 block of Kirk Road.

Warrant: Police arrested Mark Butcher,18, of South Wendover Circle, Youngstown, on a warrant for attempted auto theft.

Aug. 10

Domestic violence: Police arrested Joseph Stigar, 27, of South Main Street, on a charge of domestic violence.

Warrant: Police arrested Altone White, 43, of Fifth Avenue, Youngstown, arrested on warrant for domestic violence.

CANFIELD

July 31

Arrests: Police arrested Kaine Copeland, 25, of Alliance, on a Mahoning County warrant for disorderly conduct, and Victor Kirkpatrick, 27, of Canton, on a drug-abuse charge.

Aug. 1

Warrant: Police arrested Matthew Hilbert, 29, of Carlisle Avenue, Austintown, on a Hubbard Township warrant.

Aug. 4

Telephone harassment: Harassing phone calls were being received at a home in the 100 block of Callahan Road in February. The caller was identified and warned to stop making the calls. No charges were filed at this time.

Unauthorized charges: Unauthorized charges were reported on a credit card that belonged to a person who lives in the 200 block of Deer Trail. The victim was reimbursed.

Unauthorized charges: Unauthorized charges on a credit cards were reported by a person who lives in a home in the 300 block of Bradford Drive. The crime occurred in South Carolina, and the investigation was forwarded to that jurisdiction.

Warrant: Police arrested Jalil Liggens, 27, of East Marion Avenue, Youngstown, on a warrant for failure to appear.

Aug. 8

Drug possession: Police arrested Robin Posey, 46, of Columbus, on a charge of drug possession.
