A man accused of firing several shots at his brother Wednesday because he was unhappy with a tire had been released from prison in March on firearm and drug offenses.
Kenneth Perkins, 23, of East Indianola Avenue, is in the Mahoning County jail on a charge of felonious assault and a probation violation after he was arrested about 9:20 a.m. Wednesday.
He is expected to be arraigned in municipal court today.
Reports said officers were called to a 1703 Poland Ave. tire shop for a shooting and were told by a man that his brother, Perkins, argued with him about a tire he bought he was not happy with.
The victim said Perkins pushed him and he punched Perkins, knocking him out.
Reports said after Perkins was knocked out, he woke up and came back with a handgun and fired several shots at his brother.
The victim was not hit by the gunfire, reports said.
Police found Perkins driving the wrong way on Cooper Street and stopped him and arrested him.
Police found four .380-caliber shell casings at the tire shop, reports said.
Court records show that Perkins pleaded guilty in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court in August 2014 to four counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of cocaine. He was sentenced to nine months in prison and applied for judicial release after six months.
The judicial release was granted March 11, and Perkins also was placed on three years probation.
In that case, police came to Perkins’ home Feb. 28 because he was wanted on an aggravated burglary warrant and there they found three rifles, a shotgun and two revolvers along with 623 rounds of ammunition.
Perkins is not allowed to have weapons because of convictions in juvenile court in August 2008 on charges of felonious assault and vehicular assault.
