The second of two men charged in a 2012 shooting on the East Side was sentenced to eight years in prison Wednesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Judge Maureen A. Sweeney sentenced Willie Daniel Jr., 19, on charges of aggravated robbery and attempted murder with a firearm specification. Daniel pleaded guilty to the charges June 24.

He was accused in the shooting of a man Aug. 14, 2012, on North Fruit Street, in the parking lot of a bar during a robbery in which $250 was taken from the victim.

Daniel chose not to address the court when he was sentenced. The victim also chose not to attend the sentencing, said Assistant Prosecutor Rob Andrews.

The other person charged with the crime, Kenyetta Collins, 39, received the same sentence in February 2014.

Daniel also faces two counts of aggravated murder in a separate case and trial in that case is set for Monday before Judge Sweeney. Daniel and Tijuan Muldrow, 20, are accused in the June 1, 2012, slayings of 20-year-old Ibn Shakoor of McBride Street and Michael Johnson, also 20, of Katherine Street.

Shakoor and Johnson were found shot to death in a Chevrolet Tahoe that morning as they were sitting in Shakoor’s vehicle listening to music in front of Shakoor’s home. Police said almost two dozen shots were fired at the SUV. A third man also was inside listening to music but was not injured.

Investigators said Daniel and Muldrow were looking for another man, and the two were killed in a case of mistaken identity. Daniel and Muldrow were not indicted in that case until May 2014.
