Lawyer: Ohioan didn’t use trash to mask smell of girl’s decomposing body

MEDINA, Ohio (AP) — An attorney is seeking lower bond for an Ohio man charged with corpse abuse after a cable technician found his young daughter’s decomposed body in a crib.

The request filed Thursday in Medina County court challenges allegations that Eric Warfel put garbage in the room to mask the smell and intended to flee.

His attorney says Warfel never made such statements to police. The attorney argues those points and Warfel’s lack of a criminal record should be taken into account and his $1 million bond should be lowered.

The 34-year-old Warfel pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and was expected to undergo a psychological evaluation.

A cable man found 21-month-old Ember Warfel’s body in late July. A medical examiner hasn’t ruled on how or when she died.
