Man killed by Cedar Point coaster this evening

A coroner says a man is dead after he entered a restricted area looking for a lost cell phone at Cedar Point and was hit by a roller coaster.

The Erie County coroner tells reporters that a man in his mid-40s entered a fenced area at about 5 p.m. today and was hit by a ride called the Raptor. He hasn’t been identified.

Cedar Point confirmed the guest’s death in a statement on its Twitter account. The statement says “a guest entered a restricted, fenced area of Raptor and was struck by the ride.”

The statement added: “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this time.”

Cedar Point’s website says the Raptor travels at speeds up to 57 mph.
