Country music legend Willie Nelson may be the ripe old age of 82, but the “Red Headed Stranger” is as busy as ever.

In addition to an incessant touring schedule, including a sold-out show Friday at Nelson Ledges Quarry Park, the Grammy Award artist released his latest solo album, “Willie’s Stash, Vol. 1: December Day,” last year. Overall, the singer-songwriter has released nearly 70 albums, 10 live albums and 37 compilations that have sold more than 40 million records in the states.

Here are 10 more things you may not know about Nelson:

Nelson learned to play guitar when he was in elementary school. In addition to performing in a honky-tonk band while in high school, Nelson found time to play baseball, football and basketball.

Prior to his recording career, Nelson worked at various radio stations in Texas and Washington.

In 1961, Nelson recorded “Willingly.” The duet with his second wife, Shirley Collie, was his first top-10 single. His first No. 1 single, “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain,” didn’t come out until 1975.

In 1975, Nelson recorded “Wanted! The Outlaws” with Waylon Jennings, Jessi Colter and Tompall Glaser. In the ’80s, he joined country supergroup The Highwaymen, featuring Jennings, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson.

Nelson was famously in trouble with the IRS in the early ’90s. The taxman came after him for $32 million in back taxes. He eventually paid off his debt.

Trigger is the name of his guitar. He supposedly once saved the guitar from a fire in his ranch house.

Willie Nelson wasn’t the first to cut “Always on My Mind,” which was one of his 25 No. 1 hits. Elvis Presley released it in 1972 after he separated from his wife, Priscilla.

Nelson may appear to be relaxed, but the spry senior citizen has a black belt in kung fu.

Earlier this year, Nelson and Merle Haggard recorded their sixth duet album, “Django & Jimmie.” The project not only hit No. 1 on the Billboard country albums chart but was No. 7 on the Billboard 200.

A recent Nelson set list includes his hits as well as his Toby Keith duet “Whiskey for My Men, Beer for My Horses.”
