Sam’s Club in Boardman is ousting Mahoning County drop off recycling center

YOUNGSTOWN

Sam’s Club on South Avenue in Boardman is ousting Mahoning County’s drop off recycling center from its premises because it is concerned about liability issues stemming from dumping of materials not authorized to be recycled there, Lou Vega, county recycling director, told the county solid waste policy committee this morning.

The site, which has been provided to the county free of charge for many years, will close, effective Aug. 24, Vega said.

An Austintown Fire Station site closed earlier this year, also due to excessive dumping, he said.

After the Sam’s Club site closes, the county will have 28 drop-off recycling sites, including one at the Boardman Township Government Center and one at the Boardman Township fire station at Shields Road and Lockwood Boulevard.
