Proposed landfill host-agreement meeting Wednesday in Springfield Township

NEW SPRINGFIELD — A proposed Mahoning Landfill host agreement will be discussed at a 6 p.m. special meeting Wednesday in the Springfield Township hall.

The trustees will have their regular meeting at 7 p.m., immediately after that discussion.

Lou Vega, Mahoning County recycling director, declined to reveal terms of the agreement today, but he said it would need the approval of both the township trustees and the county commissioners. The landfill has been operating since 1986, and this would be its first host agreement, Vega said.

Poland Township has a host agreement with its Carbon-Limestone Landfill, in which the landfill funds purchase of emergency vehicles and maintenance of roads used to haul waste to the landfill, Vega said.
