Man indicted in 4-year-old girl’s drive-by shooting in Ohio

CINCINNATI (AP) — A man accused of seriously injuring a 4-year-old girl in a drive-by shooting in Cincinnati has been indicted on charges including attempted murder.

Hamilton County Joe Deters’ statement says grand jurors today indicted 20-year-old Darnell Hicks on one count of attempted murder and six felonious assault counts in the July 30 shooting.

Deters said Hicks fired multiple shots into a crowd of about a dozen gathered for a barbecue, striking the child in the head. She remained hospitalized. No one else was injured.

Police said they believed the suspect was targeting someone. Deters says it doesn’t appear any victims referred to in the indictment were intended targets. But he says the investigation is continuing.
