Gerberry Resignation Letter
Resignation Letter from Ronald V. Gerberry to Cliff Rosenberger, Speaker, Ohio House of Representatives.
COLUMBUS — Ronald V. Gerberry, who is expected to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge related to campaign-finance irregularities, has resigned as a state representative, effective Aug. 21.
The resignation letter is dated Friday and given to The Vindicator today.
The resignation comes with Gerberry, the most-senior Democrat in the Ohio House, planning to plead guilty to a misdemeanor count of unlawful compensation, according to sources close to the investigation.
The impending guilty plea, which was to include Gerberry's resignation, was exclusively reported today by The Vindicator.
Gerberry is expected to plead guilty to the charge on Aug. 21, the same day his resignation takes effect, sources say.
In a prepared statement today, the Ohio House Democratic Caucus wrote: “Reports of campaign finance wrongdoing are deeply concerning to this caucus and this institution. Obviously, we will look closely at details and facts as they emerge from this situation, but at this time, we need to remain respectful of the legal process in order to have a better understanding and complete picture of what transpired. Rep. Ron Gerberry has a stunning breadth and depth of institutional knowledge, which has been valuable to both Democratic and Republican legislators and his constituents throughout his 27 years of service."
