Akron parents sentenced to prison for neglecting children

AKRON (AP) — Two Akron parents were sentenced to serve time in prison for neglecting their children to the point where their 4-year-old with cystic fibrosis had a dead cockroach in his breathing tube.

Northeast Ohio Media Group reports 42-year-old Christian Cunard was sentenced Monday to three years in prison. Her husband, 46-year-old Wayne Cunard, received a one year sentence.

Police were alerted to the Cunard’s on Sept. 14 and an investigation found the children, who range in age from 1 to 15 years old, were not regularly fed and underweight.

Officials say the parents tied the children to chairs and left them overnight. Social workers reportedly found the dead cockroach.

Assistant Summit County Prosecutor Nik Buckmeier says the convictions will ensure the parents never have legal custody of their children again.
