Water-main break brings boil alert for Campbell residents

A water main break reported Sunday morning has led to the closure of Coitsville Road between Starr Avenue and Cortland Avenue.

A spokesman said the water department does not know when the road will reopen and that residents should boil their water before drinking it.

Residents are still receiving water, but have reported very low water pressure, the spokesman said Sunday.

Crash injures cyclist

WARREN

A crash at East Market Street and Willard Avenue Southeast on Saturday left one person injured, Warren police said. A car and a bicycle collided, injuring the cyclist, according to police.

Police said that the biker has since been transported to Akron Hospital and that East Market Street reopened after being closed for 31/2 hours.

Youngstown man arrested in shooting

SALEM

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting reported early Saturday at a Lexington Avenue apartment complex.

Vincent Perry, 22, of Youngstown is being held at the Columbiana County Jail. He is charged with felonious assault and will be arraigned today in Columbiana County Municipal Court, a Columbiana County Jail official said. His bond is set at $250,000.

Police said the shooting left a 31-year-old man with a gunshot wound in his arm. The victim was released after treatment at Salem Regional Medical Center.

Rabies clinic set Saturday at Oakhill

YOUNGSTOWN

A rabies shot clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets will take place from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday in Oakhill Renaissance Place parking deck, 345 Oak Hill Ave.

Shots are $6 per animal, with veterinary services donated by Dr. Lisa Kurtz. The clinic is sponsored by the city health department.

Cats and ferrets must be caged and dogs must be leashed.

Stabbing in Warren

WARREN

Police are investigating a stabbing reported Saturday around 11:30 p.m. at Lodwick Drive Northwest. One person required hospital treatment after the stabbing, police said. Police have not yet charged anyone in connection with the stabbing, an officer said.

Finest Basketball tourney is Saturday

YOUNGSTOWN

The Speak Project, CIRV, Excalibur Barbershop and Kingly Corp. are sponsoring the Valley’s Finest Basketball Tournament at 1 p.m. Saturday at East High School, 474 Bennington Ave.

The Youngstown Police Department will team up with youths between the age of 14 and 19 for an elimination-style basketball tournament.

Proceeds will go toward YMCA Day Camp exposure trips, YMCA Annual Campaign and other youth programs.

Child Support day features gifts to kids

The Mahoning County Child Support Enforcement Agency is conducting a Child Support Awareness Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oakhill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave., Lobby B.

The agency will give away book bags and school supplies to the first 150 school-age children attending with their parents.

YSU Resource Fair for military veterans set

The Youngstown State University Veterans Resource Center, in collaboration with the Mahoning and Trumbull County Veterans Service Commissions, will sponsor a Veterans Resource Fair from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday on the lawn of the Pollock House at YSU.

Various support services will be on hand to assist local veterans with health care issues, housing, emergency funding, continuing education, employment and other benefits.

The event is open to the public and parking is free. Veterans in attendance are encouraged to bring their DD Form 214s.

Health advisory issued for beach at state park

TOLEDO

A high level of algal toxin has triggered a public health advisory for a Lake Erie state park beach in northwest Ohio.

The Blade of Toledo reports that the state Department of Health posted the advisory after testing last Wednesday by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.

The advisory about the Maumee Bay State Park beach says the elderly, young children and people with health issues should not go into the water.

Authorities are monitoring spreading lake algae. The bloom this year is expected to grow over the next month.

Woman dies after deer, cycle accident

BRYAN, Ohio

State troopers say a woman has died after being thrown off a motorcycle hit by a deer and then getting struck by a semitractor-trailer as she lay injured on the roadway.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the motorcycle was westbound on U.S. 6 near Bryan shortly after midnight Sunday when it was struck by the deer, causing both people aboard to fly off the motorcycle.

Troopers say 34-year-old passenger Melody Bridges, of Bryan, was then hit by a semitrailer. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say the truck driver didn’t see Bridges lying on the roadway before hitting her.

Bond set for man who ran naked after crash

CINCINNATI

A southwest Ohio judge has set bonds totaling $600,000 for a man accused of causing a multi-vehicle crash and then running naked on a southwest Ohio interstate.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that 45-year-old Tracy Martin blames brake failure for the crash. Martin was in a wheelchair for a Saturday initial court appearance.

The suburban Cleveland man faces charges of aggravated vehicular assault, vehicular assault, resisting arrest and operating a vehicle under the influence.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says lab tests will be done to determine what substance caused him to be under the influence.
