City firefighters battle two blazes

YOUNGSTOWN — City firefighters battled a fire at a vacant home today.

Crews were called to Clifton and Harvard avenues in Brier Hill just after 8 a.m., where they found a home totally engulfed in flames. A damage estimate is not yet available, but the home is a total loss.

A 1014 Catalina Ave. home on the North Side was also destroyed in a fire that broke out just after midnight Saturday. Damage there is listed at $6,500.

Reports said one firefighter was slightly injured in that blaze but was able to return to duty.
