Catholic Charities Senior Center, 600 E. Fourth St., East Liverpool, will host its annual Champagne Brunch from noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 20. The event will promote the center, friends and supporters and raise funds for center operations. Several volunteers and supporters will be recognized, and the Voice of Hope Award will be presented to the following: Holy Trinity Parish and School, community support; Rotary Charities of Southern Columbiana County, organizational award; and Riverside Restaurant Supply, vendor award. Girard Multi-Generational Center will present “A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls” at the Liberty Administration Building, 1315 Church Hill Hubbard Road, Youngstown. The classes will be from 1 to 2:30 Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Aug, 18 through Sept. 10. Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. Participants will learn fall prevention strategies along with specific exercises designed to increase their strength, endurance, flexibility and balance. The program is free. Guardian Angels of Ohio, a volunteer program of Trumbull County Probate Court, is looking for new volunteers. Angel volunteers receive training to become advocates who reach out as friends to seniors who may need a friendly phone call, a visit in a nursing home, or a visit at home. Angels also are involved in planning special events for seniors such as health fairs and Make a Difference day projects. The next meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 1 at Shepherd of the Valley, 4100 N. River Road, Warren. Reservations are necessary for the dinner at 5 p.m., which costs $6.50 per person. Lord of Life Church, 550 N. Broad St., Canfield, will host a Gathering Place event at 11 a.m. Sept. 14. Jeanette and Preston Hess will talk about Seniors Helping Seniors, and a light lunch will be provided by the Woodlands at Hampton Woods. This is a free community outreach social program offered to all senior citizens, which takes place on the second Monday of each month. Games and activities are offered. Niles S.C.O.P.E. Senior Center, 14 E. State St., 330-544-3676, has planned the following: A free lunch and learn program will be Friday. The topic will be Eating Healthy presented by Garvin McCorkle from Ohio State University Extension. The luncheon will start at 11:45 a.m. followed by the talk and a question-and-answer session. Reservations are required by calling the center. Podiatry services will be available from 9 a.m. to noon Friday by appointment only. Call the center. The attending doctor is Dr. Thomas Pokabla. All participants must take their insurance card and regular co-payments will apply. Yoga classes will begin in September. Those interested should call the center. The day of the week will be determined by the interest. The choices are Tuesday or Thursday, and times will be determined by the needs of participants.
